Abstract

The paper delves into the intricate relationship between sociolinguistics and language policy in multilingual societies. It explores how language policies are shaped by sociolinguistic factors such as language contact, language attitudes, and language ideologies. The study examines the impact of these policies on language use, identity, and social cohesion within diverse linguistic landscapes. It argues that effective language policy should aim to promote linguistic diversity while ensuring accessibility and inclusion, considering the unique sociolinguistic context of each society. The paper further discusses the challenges faced by policymakers in balancing national unity and respect for linguistic rights, and proposes strategies for fostering a harmonious multilingual environment.
